The Love of Hopeless Causes (1993)
By the early 1990s, almost by accident, we had begun to carve out a particular identity for ourselves, so The Love of Hopeless Causes was not what anyone was expecting. We felt that we were in danger of getting trapped in a folk-rock cul-de-sac, so, just as this ‘style’ became a fashionable and commercial sound in the UK, we made a deliberate move away from it and straight and into guitar-driven rock music. It is a full-on album, driven equally by personal traumas, including Justin's near-death electrocution on stage in Switzerland, and the massive changes going on in the world around us and it was produced at Amazon Studios in Liverpool with huge energy, joy and charisma by Niko Bolas and later beautifully mixed by Bob Clearmountain in Los Angeles.

NEW MODEL ARMY – Hong Kong, Australia & New Zealand April / May 2025
We have waited over 40 years to come and play shows in Australia & New Zealand for our incredibly loyal fans there.
Unfortunately there are very high costs for everyone involved and advance ticket sales have not been as strong as our promoter had hoped, so we have had to face a difficult choice between cancelling the tour entirely, which is not what anybody wants, or adjusting the tour and making compromises. Obviously we have decided on the second option, so here's what this means:
The Hong Kong, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney shows will proceed with the full band as planned. We are adding a second concert in Hong Kong on April 29, and the Sydney venue will change to Mary's Underground.
However the Auckland, Adelaide and Perth shows will now consist of the stripped-down duo version of NMA featuring Justin and Dean that has played concerts across Europe and America. Additionally, the Perth venue will change to Lynott's Lounge. For ticket holders of these three shows, if this does not work for you, ticket refunds will be available from your point of purchase.
Whatever the format, we're looking forward to it. See you soon!
